Modern Day Slavery
Slavery is no longer legal but making slaves out of free human beings never fully went away. It’s an addiction for many due to the profits it brings in. Through deception and coercion, innocent people continue to be psychologically tricked into serving others as slaves.
With that in mind, one of the worst things that can happen to the wicked is losing their top slave, an asset that brought them excellent benefits of some kind. In an effort to psychologically break a person down, such people will often reject or abandon their slave, hoping that the person will grovel and beg to be taken back.
In reality, this is an opening from God to people to leave behind those who rebel against God. Regardless of how many teams of people gather to ‘advise’ a person to return, one should never be fooled twice. In fact, this level of desperation can be the wake up call required to see what’s really going on.
When it comes to humans, humans are owned by God. Anyone who crosses that boundary has entered dangerous territory. Shirk is a crime God does not forgive if a person dies on it.
Those who escape traffickers are often attacked with what is called a reverse hoover. This is a manipulation technique that attacks the victim’s potential fear of abandonment and their need to be liked and approved of to reel them back in. Everything can be used from threats and blackmail to false promises to bring the person back.
Again, as our Prophet(saw) has taught us, a Muslim is not fooled twice.
“But I said sorry while I continue to accuse you falsely and you’re just not forgiving enough!” is the characteristic of a wolf, not a normal person.
The person who behaves as an owner over others hopes their slave is so psychologically traumatized and weakened that they will do the work to reconcile and agree to serving the owner in order to increase their profits.
A potential slave on the receiving end of a hoover will see such reactions:
“You are a deeply wicked soul who we badly require to work for us. Now come back here because we need you to earn for us.“
“How dare you not need us? Who do you think you are?“
“Look at all the fake crimes you have committed. You are expected to spend days and nights defending yourself. Now come back here because we have made deals and you need to show up for work.“
“Look at all these people you refuse to work for. They all hate you! Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?“
“How have you managed to escape every trap we have set for you?“
As Muslims, we seek refuge from those who are involved in shirk and we ask Allah to use us to free the slaves. Ameen.
