If you function as more of a human doer, this may be for you. If you identify as a human *being* then the following will be obvious.
I have realized this year that I was taught to approach Ramadan in the past as perhaps more of a human doer and I’m completely unsubscribing from that approach.
I am reminded the idea is to approach Ramadan as a human soul and strive to evolve into a more heart-based human *being*. The goal is soul expansion and not a “productive” Ramadan.
If/when the *focus* becomes “productivity” and we’re already conditioned to measure productivity in terms of numbers, we fall into the human *doer* approach.
I’m *not* saying not to be productive. I am saying it's all too easy to end up reversing the order of things and prioritizing incorrectly when we approach Ramadan with the approach of a human *doer*.
It’s easy to adopt that approach because on an intellectual level we can be deeply situated in and tied to the material world. It makes the ego feel good when you get solid results. However, spiritual growth cannot be quantified or measured in that way. It can in fact turn into a self-centered approach without us realizing it vs a God-centric approach which is what Allah wants for us.
Allah wants for us to increase in taqwa and that means our inner gaze has to be on Him swt. If we begin with a focus on results, we can end up beginning with a sense of overwhelm. When we begin with and continue to focus and connect with Allah as an imperfect slave seeking to worship Allah, we can experience more flow insh’allah.
I ask Allah to expand my soul and yours and to increase us in taqwa as we go through our worship this Ramadan. Ameen.
